1968

"...however, first thoughts are rarely turn out to be last thoughts.."

1968 is a series of paintings based on personal black and white photographs taken sometime during 1968

In 1967, upon entering art college, I purchased my first single lens reflex (SLR) camera, a Zenit B. Recently, whilst reviewing scanned images of the photographs taken with this camera, I came across a set images of my then partner and present wife and committed to using them as a basis of a series of paintings. In the 1990s, I produced a monochrome portrait (see below) based on one of the photographs and I imagined continuing along the same lines, i.e., monochromes; however, first thoughts are rarely turn out to be last thoughts.
