Historic Acts

Historic Acts is an ongoing series of works based on historic events remembered, at least in part, because of an act associated with them

Bloomsday, named after the protagonist of his novel Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, is a commemoration and celebration of Joyce’s life observed annually in Dublin and elsewhere on 16 June, the day in 1904 in which his novel takes place and the date of Joyce’s first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, in which she performed a sexual act that he recollects in a letter to her dated 3 December 1909. (Ellman, 1975).

More recently, I completed a second work in the series of a meeting between Presidents Trump and Macron on the 7th June 2018 prior to the 44th G7 summit, which was held on 8–9 June 2018, in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada. (Crilly, 2018). Media reports noted that Macron has squeezed Trump's hand so hard that it was visibly reddened on release.
